National Certificate Vocational (NCV)

SAFETY IN SOCIETY

What does the course prepare you for?

Safety in Society is a three-year certificate course which is a vocationally–oriented qualification, equivalent to a matric certificate. The vocational certificate consists of three National Qualification Framework (NQF) Levels 2 (2008), 3 (2009) and 4 (2010), equivalent to a Grade 12 certificate, which is one of the minimum requirements for enlistment as a trainee in the SAPS. The learners in this pilot, after completing the NQF Level 4 “Safety in Society” certificate, will be eligible to join the SAPS.

Some of the learners at the conventional schools do subjects that do not help them when they complete matric, while the Safety in Society certificate is more vocational. Learners will enroll for subjects that will channel them towards a vocation they want to pursue post matric. This qualification is targeting learners who are medically and physically fit, have no criminal record and have passed Grade Nine at school.

The learners will have to undergo psychometric testing at the beginning and at the end of the qualification.

Career options in Transport & Logistics
Transport and Logistics are two related areas which both offer good career opportunities for graduates. Logistics describes the management of activities associated with the planning and movement of materials, parts and finished goods across companies, together with the information flow that accompanies it.The options available to you within the transport and logistics sectors are vast.

Untitled-1

What’s it like working in this sector?
People who work in this sector tend to have, either at the outset or soon into their careers, a genuine interest in at least some aspect of transportation or distribution.
Transport and logistics exemplify the 24/7 culture. Some, but by no means all, roles require shift work including evenings, nights and weekends. In addition, depending on the role, travel may be a regular feature both locally, nationally and even internationally. There are still significantly more males than females working within the sector. All applicants need to demonstrate a range of skills and the ability to work within a team.
So, what is Transport and Logistics?
Logistics: is the cost effective process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient movement and storage of goods from the point of origin to the end-user. Transport: is the movement of products and people from one point to another via AIR, SEA, ROAD and RAIL.
